In 1979 the Chinese American Service League (CASL) had just been established in Chicago. Meeting with Po and Charles and starting CISANI was very exciting. I was delighted that so many established organizations across the world were willing to share their information and methods on serving their communities. Initially I was looking for CISANI to focus on networking.

In 1979 three community leaders - Po Wong in San Francisco, Charles Wang in New York City, and Bernarda Wong in Chicago - sought to reach out to their counterparts and learn more about the services they provided to the Chinese community in their area. They felt brining together a focused group of organizations serving Chinese immigrants would be extremely helpful.
